Tributes have been paid to a Naas man described as a 'treasure' to the town.
Stan Hickey worked for The Leinster Leader for many years and was a stalwart at the Moat Club and Naas History Group.
The married father of five will be laid to rest on Monday.
He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Naas General Hospital on December 3.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Bernadette and children Mark, Darragh, Miriam, Eoin and Treasa.
He is also mourned by his grandchildren Ross, Andrew, Aoife, Cormac, Hanna and Stan, daughters-in-law Mary, Anne and Emilia, sisters Maura and Gabrielle, brothers-in-law, extended family, neighbours, and wide circle of friends including the Moat Club Members and the Naas History Group.
Mayor of Naas Cllr Seamie Moore said Stan was a 'treasure' of the community in Naas.
The Mayor said: "Naas has lost a treasure and a gentleman. Sincere condolences to his lovely wife Bernadette, his family and siblings Gabrielle and Maura.
"Stan was the original 'influencer' of the town's many values, its history, its people, its streets, its shops, its churches, its castle and outstanding buildings.
"His talks and writings are unsurpassable. He was a 'reference point' for everything Naas. He knew and promoted the very fabric of the town as if it was the only place on earth.
"He had a special attachment to his Moat Theatre and was one of the stalwarts who gave it a National Status, only a few years after he helped to put it on its feet. Ni bheith a leithéad ann, arís."
The funeral cortège will leave the family residence at 11:30am on Monday with Requiem Mass at 12 noon at the Church of Our Lady and St. David, Naas, followed by burial at St. Corban’s Cemetery, Naas.
