Despite the cheery implications and expectations of Christmas, it is an unfortunate reality that many people will be battle suicidal thoughts and depression during the holiday season.

Taking to social media to address this fact, the Newbridge and Kildare branch of Samaritans Ireland has said that it is preparing to brighten up the darkest day of the year: December 21, 2025.

Specifically, the group wishes to bathe Newbridge in green light "for those who need it most".

Newbridge and Kildare Samaritans added that any businesses that are interested in putting green lights up in solidarity can email newbridgesamaritans.socialmedia@gmail.com.

The group also emphasised that any and all donations will go directly to its branch.

Newbridge and Kildare Samaritans is a recognised branch of the organisation, and is also a registered charity.

Anyone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.ie.
