A local representative requested Kildare County Council (KCC) to install a disability bus parking space near a popular shopping centre.

Fine Gael councillor Peggy O'Dwyer motioned for the installation of the parking space at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, December 17 last.

Specifically, Cllr O'Dwyer motioned for KCC to install the parking space "at the Whitewater Shopping Centre, Newbridge, at the main entrance on Moorefield Road".

Her motion was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.

In response to Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting that the road at the main entrance to Whitewater Shopping Centre has not been taken in charge by KCC.

"As a result, KCC is unable to carry out works at this location," KCC added.

Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer told KCC that she noted the reply.

She also told the Leinster Leader following the meeting that Newbridge Disability Access Group, of which Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer is a member, will engage with Whitewater Shopping Centre (or "any relevant stakeholders") to consider the request for the parking space.
