A suitable funding source will need to be identified for an ambitious project planned for Kildare town.

The information was revealed by Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, December 17 last.

Specifically, the information was given to the MD's councillors in response to a query made by Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly, who attended the meeting by virtual emails.

His query read as follows: "Can KCC outline the progress being made with the upgrade works in the Market Square in Kildare town?"

RESPONSE

KCC issued the following response via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Part 8 [process] for the Market Square was approved on May 15, 2024.

"To progress this project through the next stages of tender and construction, a suitable funding source will need to be identified."

KCC added: "Currently, there is no funding identified to progress this project."

After being informed about the status of the project by KCC, Cllr Connolly then asked KCC if it has appealed for any funding to progress the project.

In response, a representative of KCC who was present at the meeting reiterated that no funding has been identified at the moment.

However, they also gave an assurance to revert back to Cllr Connolly with further information.
