As the human race enters into the first week of 2026, climate change remains a hot topic of conversation.

Just yesterday (January 4 last), RTÉ News reported that the scientists behind the World Weather Attribution's (WWA) annual report found that extreme weather events, which were driven by human-induced climate change, continued to disproportionately hit poorer communities in 2025.

And although climate change is a global issue that can seem overwhelming to think about at times, anyone with the right guidance can learn more about it, as well as a number useful steps which one can take to reduce the harmful effects of climate change.

In fact, there are a variety of avenues available to learn more about the subject, such as by undertaking educational courses, with one such course due to be launched soon in County Kildare.

According to Kildare County Council (KCC), the upcoming 'Free Beginners Climate Course For The Over 55s' will be led by Jacinta Barris, a retired United Nations diplomat.

KCC also said that attendees will learn about a variety of topics, including how to measure one's carbon footprint and how to understand the barriers to behavioural change (in relation to climate change).

The 'Free Beginners Climate Course For The Over 55s' will take place over six sessions: February 24, 2026; March 3, 2026; March 10, 2026; March 19, 2025; March 24, 2026; and May 5, 2026.

All sessions will take place inside Naas Library and will run from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

Furthermore, the organisers have said that tea will be provided at these sessions.

Anyone who is interested in attending this course can contact Naas Library by email on naaslib@kildarecoco.ie, or call 045 980 795.
