A sports complex is needed for this Kildare town - which 'will have a 50,000 population'

Kildare County Council has been asked to acquire land to develop a multi-purpose sports complex.

Naas Mayor Seamie Moore said, at a Naas Municipal District committee meeting, it is needed to cater for a future population of 50,000 in Naas.

KCC pointed out that this is not part of current planed but Kerdiffstown Park has opened and

a significant project is underway to develop amenity lands in Sallins.

KCC also said that “notwithstanding a lack of funding” it is engaging with “any reasonable opportunities regarding amenity lands.”

It also said if councillors propose funding it would also strengthen the council’s position to acquire lands “should an opportunity arise”

Cllr Moore said €200,000 a year is being set aside for this.
