Decluttering in the New Year can make daily life smoother and more efficient.

A mother of two from Co Kildare has just launched a new business as a professional organiser.

Lorraine Smith from Narraghmore, who previously worked for more than 20 years as a nurse, has developed a real passion for returning busy households and offices to calm and orderly spaces.

Lorraine said: “During the pandemic, I began organising my own home by decluttering spaces and donating items that no longer served our family.

“That process allowed me to put systems in place that worked for everyone, especially in busy areas like the laundry room, closets, the home office and teenagers’ bedrooms.

“Because we were all working from home, that organisation helped us function much more efficiently,” she said. “It was that experience that sparked my interest in helping others do the same.”

Over the past two years, Lorraine has worked closely with Sarah Reynolds of @organisedchaosireland and worked on various projects including family homes, business spaces, house moves and clearing storage containers.

Lorraine explained: “Life is busy for everyone right now, and a messy space is hard to work or live in. Visual clutter also plays a part in how we feel emotionally.

“By putting simple systems in place that everyone can use, it really lightens the load for parents and bosses.

“My aim is to help relieve that tension and restore a sense of calm.”

Lorraine said that, although she is based in Kildare, she is available to work all around Leinster.
