People from around Kildare and beyond have been reminiscing about the old Nijinsky's night club on the Curragh after someone shared an old poster to social media.

A follower of the Newbridge Down Memory Lane Facebook page shared an image of the old poster from 1988. The poster advertised the famed venue at Jockey Hall on the Curragh, promising disco dancing, an Irish night featuring Heather Breeze, as well as a teenager disco.

Fellow locals were quick to jump into the comments to share their memories of the long-closed night club from back in the day.

One person remembered "great times when life was a lot simpler but far, far more fun," to which another replied, "loved that place, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. What a great time to be young and free."

A woman admitted that she "still talks about this place, the best disco place to go at the time."

Another added: "Those were the days, handbags on the floor and we danced around them with not a care in the world, loved Nijinskys."

Many others remembered the food, "chicken, mash and peas served by Mrs Purcell," one person recalled, while others remembered the chicken curry, nuggets and chips and the chipper vans.

Others remembered getting to and from the remote spot in Ballysax. One person said: "I walked many times across the Curragh home to Newbridge, missed the bus AGAIN."

Someone else added: "About 10 -15 of us used to walk from the 'bush pub' and home." Others remembered the long wait for taxis or the bus back to Newbridge.

One woman recalls it being better than London having visited during her summer holidays as a teenager: "We went home every summer to visit our cousins and had some of the best laughs there. Brilliant memories. Nothing as fun as that in London.
Would love to go back to 80s for one more night there."

Another asked what ever replaced it, but one local pointed out that the venue has been a private house for some time.
