Naas Roads Policing Unit this week stopped a motorcycle which was carrying a pillion passenger in Allenwood, Co Kildare.
What gardai discovered upon inspection of the motorcycle was extremely concerning:
The rider was on a learner permit carrying a passenger
There was no insurance on the motorcycle
The motor tax had expired by 1,327 days
The rear brakes were disabled — making the motorcycle dangerously unsafe, especially in wet and cold conditions

A Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) was issued. The rider will appear before the courts for driving without insurance.
The motorcycle will now undergo expert examination by the PSV Office, and further charges will follow for riding a dangerous and defective vehicle.
A Garda spokesperson said of the incident: “This level of disregard puts lives at risk — not just the rider, but passengers and other road users. There is no excuse. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
