Sigerson Cup champions DCU Dóchas Éireann reached the last eight with a 1-16 to 1-13 win over ATU Galway last night. With this tight battle drawn level at 1-12 apiece with 13 minutes to go, it was Caragh forward Darragh Swords who edged his side into the lead that they would hold come full-time when he raised a white flag in the 47th minute.
It was a mixed evening for Raheens man Niall Dolan who, to his credit, bounced back from a black card just before half-time to give his team a then two-point lead just a couple minutes after his return to the field.
Westmeath man Senan Baker was the game's standout player however, the Caulry star registered a brilliant 0-8 on the night, which made up half of his team's white/orange flag total.
DCU squad members Colm Dalton, Ryan Sinkey and Jack McKevitt were not named in the match day squad with Dalton unlikely to feature in Sigerson Cup this year based on Brian Flanagan's latest injury update on the Kildare squad. Dara Crowley was an unused substitute for DCU on the night.
