LATEST: Kildare Co Council issues statement after emergency meeting on Storm Chandra

Members of the Kildare County Council Severe Weather Assessment Team attended a briefing of the National Emergency Coordination Group this afternoon regarding the ongoing impact of Storm Chandra.  

The Status Yellow Wind Warning remains in place for County Kildare until 11pm on Tuesday.

A Kildare County Council statement said:

"Members of the public are advised to allow for disruption when commuting over the coming days, plan extra travel time and reduce speed.

"Road users are advised to expect surface water, debris and poor visibility.

"The public is advised to stay back from riverbanks, streams and canals as water levels may rise quickly.

• Keep children and pets away from waterways and flooded areas
• It is essential to heed signage for roads closed
• Do not drive through floodwater – turn back and use another route
• Keep away from coastal edges, harbours, piers and low-lying promenades during high tide

"Check in with neighbours, older people or anyone who may need assistance in case conditions worsen.

"The public are urged to monitor Met Eireann forecasts over the next 24 hours as conditions may change quickly. 

"Visit www.met.ie for the most up to date information.
