Kildare residents are 'inundating' the county council over 'dangerous trees'

Kildare County Council is inundated with calls by people concerned about the risks posed by trees.

KCC has spent €90,000 during 2025 on tree pruning alone but it says that “it will never be possible to satisfy all the requests received.”

At a Celbridge Leixlip Municipal District meeting, Cllr David Trost said a list of trees to be removed or pruned should be provided to councillors - before this is given to contractors.

The councillor said this would minimise the requests for work to be done.

“It would be helpful to have a more regular update," he said.

KCC official Simon Wallace said the council gets “calls about trees all the time” and all of these have to be assessed.

He also said it is difficult to “meet all the views” and said there are often contradictory opinions among neighbours, adding “some want them, some don’t.”

He also said the programme of tree works is issued to councillors prior to work starting and the “extent of the programme” is based on requests from the councillors and the public.

Mr Wallace said the public hold “views in relation to what works should and should not be carried out and it will never be possible to satisfy all the requests received.”
