Works are needed for the interior of a mausoleum in County Kildare, according to a local councillor.

Previously, at a Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) meeting which took place back in November of 2023, Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy praised upcoming plans for a mausoleum located in Clane, calling them 'a step above and beyond.'

And at the most recent MD meeting, which took place on Friday, February 6 last, Cllr McEvoy submitted the following question to Kildare County Council (KCC): "Can the council provide an update on the plans, timeline and progress to date in relation to conservation and repair works at the Wogan Browne Mausoleum in Clane, including any actions arising from previous reports or recommendations?"

In response to his query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Heritage and Nature Unit are engaged in the process of appointing consultants to address the Wogan Browne Mausoleum, Clane."

KCC also told Cllr McEvoy: "The brief is for a specialist contractor to undertake the following works: repairs to the lead flashing on roof; the installation of appropriate rainwater goods to both sides of roof; and the construction of a drainage system under archaeological licence from the National Monuments Service."

Furthermore, KCC noted that all works are to be completed "subject to permission from National Monuments Service being obtained".

Speaking further on the report, Cllr McEvoy said that while he was mostly satisfied with it, he still stressed to KCC: "More works need to happen internally."

He specifically claimed that the interior of the site was currently being affected by "damp-related decay".
