While operating a speed check on a local road in Christianstown, Co Kildare recently, members of the Naas Roads Policing Unit detected a vehicle travelling at 90km/h in a 60km/h zone – 50% over the speed limit.

A Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (€160) and three penalty points were issued to the driver of the vehicle.

A statement issued by An Garda Síochána Kildare read: “Speed limits are not suggestions. They are there to protect:

  • Pedestrians crossing local roads

  • Other road users

  • Families in our community
