From road safety concerns, to Castletown House and Uisce Éireann – a mixture of motions in this upcoming MD meeting

Kildare County Council's headquarters at Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park in Naas.

In the next meeting of Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District - being held on Friday, February 20 2026 in Áras Chill Dara, Naas, Co Kildare - the majority of motions relate to transport concerns.

First up, Fianna Fáil councillor Bernard Caldwell will ask “that the council investigates the possibility of making the entrance into Dun Carraig, off Captain’s Hill, Leixlip safer for pedestrians and vehicles exiting the estate.”

Next, a motion from Cllr Rupert Heather (Lab) asks that the council segregate the cycle lanes on Aghards Road, Celbridge, with bollards.

This, Cllr Heather contends, will increase cyclist, motorist and pedestrian safety on what is a “busy, fast stretch of road.”

Staying on road safety concerns, Cllr David Trost (FF) asks that the council consider high visibility warning signs at the bridge in Celbridge.

According to Cllr Trost, there is an ongoing risk of vehicles crashing into the bridge at a particular location on the exit from Lucan Road.

A comprehensive motion from Cllr Nuala Killeen (SD) will ask the council to implement a targeted “Leixlip Safe and Accessible Routes Plan.”

This, Cllr Killeen states in her motion, will aim at improving pedestrian, cycling and community safety across the town.

Under the scheme, high-risk areas and key walking routes, including Captain’s Hill, Riverforest, Glendale, Glen Easton, Rinawade, Castletown and the town centre approaches would be identified.

Cllr Killeen called for engagement with key stakeholders, and that a full report be brought back to the council.

Also under the 'Transport' heading, Cllr Paul Brooks (FG) asks that Kildare County Council retains/reinstates the school traffic warden on the crossing between Leixlip GAA and Scoil Eoin Phoil on Green Lane in Leixlip.

Parks

Moving on to 'Parks', and Cllr Declan Ryan (FG) asks that the council discusses plans with the Office of Public Works for a forest walk and nature trail “through the land owned by Kildare County Council, now that Castletown House and demesne/parklands is in State ownership.”

Corporate and Cultural Services

Meanwhile, under 'Corporate and Cultural Services', Cllr Nuala Killeen (SD) asks members to agree to receive a presentation for the Green Lane pupils from the parents group in relation to road safety issues in Leixlip.

Cllr Killeen's Social Democrats colleague, Cllr Claire O'Rourke asks the council to invite Uisce Éireann to an “urgent” meeting to help members provide an explanation to constituents regarding a road closure for proposed works on the Maynooth Road scheduled for May.

People and Property Management

And lastly, under 'People and Property Management', Cllr Paul Brooks (FG) asks “That the council provides a detailed plan for what amenities it aims to provide on Kildare County Council owned lands at Donaghcumper.”
