A branch of the mental health support group know as the Samaritans is preparing to host a fundraiser and awareness event inside a well-known shopping centre.
The Newbridge and Kildare branch plans to hold the all-day event inside the Whitewater Shopping Centre (SC) in Newbridge later this month, to coincide with 'Mindful February', a mental health initiative currently being run by the SC.
Speaking ahead of the fundraiser, a representative for the branch opened by expressing gratitude to the management of the Whitewater: "They are always very helpful and supportive to us and all local groups, especially as part of their 'Mindful February' campaign."
The rep continued: "As Samaritan volunteers, we give freely of our time to support others.
"100 per cent of all donations go directly to running the branch and keeping this vital service open 24 /7, 365 days of the year.
"We do not have any paid staff at our branch."

They further said that the service solely relies "on the generosity of the public" in order to support callers when they are in crisis and need someone to listen.
"Our amazing volunteers, ranging in age from 20 to over 80 provide a safe space for those who need to talk," the rep added. "We also provide outreach to local schools, companies, and many public events."
Newbridge and Kildare Samaritan's event will take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
