A bus lane built on a section of motorway in north Kildare is still not open - even though it's in place since 2023.
“It’s sitting there on the side of the road and it is not operational,” independent councillor Pádraig McEvoy told a Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting.

Another councilor, Donna Phelan, also criticised the M4 route - specifically junction 7.
Cllr Phelan wants Kildare County Council to ask Transport Infrastructure Ireland to act.
She requested that TII “urgently reexamine the operation performance” of the junction.
She said capacity constraints are causing recurring delays.
Cllr Phelan also said that the “design and layout limitations (are) impacting safe and efficient traffic movement” and interim measures should be considered prior to a large programme of works.
Cllr Phelan said people living in Clane, Rathcoffey, Straffan and parts of Celbridge are impacted and the situation is at Breaking point.
“Trafic is backed up from 8am and it reappears in the afternoon,” she said.
