TIMELINE: Key events since the disappearance of Kildare teenager Deirdre Jacob in 1998

Missing Newbridge woman Deirdre Jacob was just 18-years-old when she was last seen in 1998 near her home in Co Kildare.


This is a Timeline of how events unfolded:

July 28, 1998: The trainee teacher vanished after getting a bank draft in the AIB bank at Newbridge to pay for student accommodation in London where she was studying to become a primary-school teacher.

When last seen, she was wearing a navy Nike jumper with white collar, blue jeans and blue Nike running shoes. She was carrying a black bag with CAT 

September, 7, 1998: Renewed appeal for missing student is made on RTE’s Crimeline programme.

March 1, 1999: A fresh appeal was made from church pulpits in a bid to solve the mystery. Priests urged people who might be afraid to contact gardai to talk to the clergy instead.

July 28, 2008: Detectives offer a €100,000 reward on the 10th anniversary of disappearance.

April 24, 2015: The Jacob family appear on Crimecall to make a fresh appeal for information.

August 14, 2018: A month after the new appeal, the disappearance of Kildare teenager Deirdre Jacob 20 years ago has been updated to a murder investigation.

February 16, 2026: Gardai begin search in Kilruddery, Co Wicklow - close to the Kildare border - as part of the investigations into the disappearance of Deirdre Jacob and JoJo Dullard.
