An outpouring of positive well-wishes were expressed to an outgoing Kildare County Council official at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting.
The messages were heard near the end of the meeting, which took place yesterday (Wednesday, February 18 last), when the Mayor of the MD, Fianna Fáil councillor Noel Heavey, noted that the meeting would be the last one to feature Kildare County Council (KCC) official Eileen Hanlon.
It was also heard that Ms Hanlon, who is currently KCC's manager of finance, digital services, innovation and governance, would be succeeded in the MD meetings by Siobhán Scully.
Speaking about Ms Hanlon, Mayor Heavey: "I have relied a lot on Eileen; she will be a loss [to this MD]."
He added: "I just want to thank you and I wish you all the very best."
Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer also said to Ms Hanlon: "We have worked well together and I wish you well", while Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender jokingly said: "While I am gutted to lose you from this MD, I am delighted for you, as you won't have to deal with us anymore!"
He also described Ms Hanlon as "always [being] on the ball" and "always did your best to answer to answer your questions."
Another councillor who complimented Ms Hanlon on her work in the MD was Fianna Fáil Cllr Suzanne Doyle, who described her as a "an excellent director of services".
Furthermore, Cllr Doyle's party colleague, Cllr O'Loughlin, called Ms Hanlon " a fountain of knowledge" and "a straight-talking person".
Lastly, Fine Gael Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer told Ms Hanlon: "There was never any beating around the bush with you, Eileen... whether we liked it or not!"
Mayor Heavey concluded the session by once again wishing Ms Hanlon well in her new role.
