Newbridge Gardaí in Co Kildare were recently conducting mobile patrols in the area and utilised the mobility device, which identified three drivers as holders of learner permits.

All three drivers were found to be:

  • Driving unaccompanied

  • Failing to display L plates

  • Holders of Learner Permits only

Fixed Charge Notices were issued to each driver for:

  • Driving unaccompanied while holding a Learner Permit

  • Failing to display L plates

Under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act, all three vehicles were subsequently seized.

A garda spokesperson stated: “A reminder to all Learner Permit holders: you must be accompanied by a fully licensed driver and clearly display L plates at all times while driving.

"Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
