Any delay in improving train services for Kildare residents will have knock-on consequences.

Independent councillor Pádraig McEvoy wants Kildare County Council to write to four government ministers as well as the TDs and senators representing Kildare pointing out the impact that delays to rail projects will have on achieving both housing delivery and emissions reduction targets in  County Kildare.

He also said, at a KCC meeting, that the insufficient funding for walking and cycling infrastructure should be highlighted because this will affect public safety, public health and traffic congestion in the county.

He said national transport plans would be “reviewed and amended to address these concerns.”

Separately, Cllr Nuala Killeen wants KCC to urge the Minister of Transport Darragh O’Brien seeking the urgent reinstatement of the plan to progress the DART+ South West project “within the next four years and to not delay commencement to 2030.”
