The escalation of the conflict involving the USA and Israel versus Iran is having a widespread ripple effect across the world when it comes to heating oil prices.

In fact, according to oilprices.ie, not even County Kildare is immune to the consequences of this development, as oil prices have shot up by 82 per cent in just over one week (February 28 last to March 8 last).

As of the time of publication, the average cost of oil at 500 litres is now €899, up from €500.21 on February 28 last.

And over the course of one day (March 5 to March 6), the average cost of oil at 500 l rose from €788.22 to €853.24, a rise of 92 per cent, or a difference of €65.02.

Two oil companies with branches in Kildare — Flynn Fuels and Klass Oil — tie for highest cost per 500 l at €990.

For 1,000 l, the two businesses are currently charging €1,970 and €1,969 respectively.

Conversely, three other oil companies — Q Fuels, Kiernan Oils and Kilbride Oil — tie for the lowest cost per 500 l at €850.

Q Fuels is also currently currently charging 1,625 for 1,000 l, while there was no information available in relation to the other two businesses.

Meanwhile, no information was available for oil prices associated with the following companies in Kildare: Naas Oil, North City Oil, Euro Oil, A1 Oil and Curran Oil.

The increase in oil prices has led to a backlash across the county, with one Kildare South TD, Shónagh Ní Raghallaigh, claiming that one company in Kildare was engaging in price gouging.

However, the Sinn Féin rep did not directly name the company she was referring to in her allegation.
