Design work has started on traffic calming measures and pedestrian crossings for the Clane Inner Rellief Road, Co Kildare.
Cllr Paula Mulroe (SD) motioned - “That the council installs raised ramps and pedestrian crossings at the roundabout near Alexandra Park and the Westgrove Hotel on the Clane Inner Relief Road” - at this month's meeting of Clane Maynooth Municipal District.
hanking the Cathaoirleach for the report, Cllr Mulroe said she was “delighted” to see “a positive” report” coming from the council on the issue, and thanked Cllr Padraig McEvoy (IND) for his assistance over the past month.
Cllr Mulroe asked if there was a timeline on the funding application, “to know where we're at for funding for the location”.
Cllr McEvoy pointed out it was “worth noting” that when the extension to the Capdoo Link Road is opened, that a change to the flow of traffic is anticipated along the Alexandra estate.

He told the council there is now a large population of young people walking to and from the local schools, and the various roundabouts, particularly the the Sallins roundabout, do not have sufficient provision for the growing population trying to access the town by walking and cycling.
If the council could see some way towards making progress on this, it would be “very welcome”, he said.
A council official stated that the council is looking at “both roundabouts”, and that there was “potential” in 2026 to have funding assigned to the project.
The challenge, he said, is that the work might be ready, “but the money isn't there.”
If at all possible, the official said, the work will be done this year, but pointed out that the the design work has already started and will be ready by the summer.
“We'll be poised to do it, should the money be available”, he confirmed.
A report issued by the local authority stated: “At the February Municipal District meeting, Kildare County Council agreed to examine these locations on foot of a motion relating to the Clane Safe Routes To School Project.
“Preparation works are underway on a design and a source of funding is being considered.”
