A 'key tourism town' located in County Kildare needs to have more parking spaces, according to one local councillor.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Suzanne Doyle made the assertion to Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, March 18 last.
Prior to Cllr Doyle making these comments, she asked KCC to "provide a progress report on the delivery of additional car parking for Kildare town, acknowledging its current very low ratio per population in comparison to other towns".

In response to Cllr Doyle's query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Parking bye-laws for Kildare town are expected to go to public consultation in the very near future."
KCC also stressed: "The availability of additional land for parking is extremely limited; however, the Transport Department has identified additional parking spaces which will be included in the draft bye-laws for consideration during the public consultation process."
Despite the contents of the report, Cllr Doyle still had concerns over the lack of parking in Kildare town.
She explained: "We are already at a low rate [of parking spaces] in the town. We refer to Kildare town as a key tourism town for the entire county."
"It is a big draw, therefore, parking has to be improved," Cllr Doyle emphasised.
She concluded by telling KCC: "I would like to see a comparative analysis [of parking] done around this Municipal District, or maybe even the entire county."
