A woman claimed in Naas District Court that her teenage child is in therapy because of her former husband.
The pair are originally both from outside Ireland and she sought protection at a family law hearing.
The woman alleged the man is verbally abusive and violent.
She also claimed he criticised her as a parent and made blackmail threats to the effect that he would go to court and have the children taken away.
She said one of the children is in therapy and he is refusing to pay for this, even though, she claimed, this was necessary because of him.
The woman also said he drinks a lot and he had kicked and shoved her. She claimed the child had reported him for being abusive to his former wife.

Judge Desmond Zaidan granted her an interim protection order and adjourned the matter to July 27.
He said the order would also protect the children.
The man was not present or represented.
