Kildare County Council (KCC) has assured a local representative that a project involving a secondary school is progressing.
The answer was provided to Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, which took place on Wednesday, March 18 last.
Cllr Connolly initially raised the subject by submitting the following question: "Can KCC confirm what progress is being made with the Safe Routes To School [SRTS] project at Ardscoil Ráth Iomgháin in Rathangan?"
In response to his query, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: The SRTS Delivery Plan (including school surveys) will be completed by An Taisce Green Schools in the coming months for Ardscoil Rath Iomghain."
KCC added: "Upon completion of the Plan and receipt of same, the KCC's Sustainable Transport team can commence the design process."
Following this, Cllr Connolly also asked KCC if it could install a rail on a canal lock located near the school (He explained to KCC after the meeting that the students often use it as a bridge to cross on a daily basis, and he wanted the rail to be installed in order to prevent any potential slips or falls).
A rep for KCC who was also present at the meeting replied by saying that KCC has no plans to do so.
However, the rep added that they could visit the site and inspect it with Cllr Connolly in the near future.
