An illegal e-scooter has been seized in Newbridge, Co Kildare recently.
Earlier this week, gardaí in Newbridge seized a high-powered KuKirin e-scooter from a 14-year-old who was carrying a passenger on the main street.
According to An Garda Síochána Kildare, the scooter exceeds legal limits on speed, power and weight and is “illegal on Irish roads.”
Gardaí explained that legal e-scooters must not exceed 20km/h, must weigh under 25kg, and can only be ridden by those aged 16 and over.
Carrying passengers is strictly prohibited, gardaí also noted.
The youths will now be dealt with under the Juvenile Liaison Programme, and the scooter has been impounded.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána Kildare stated: “Parents: do not buy powerful e-scooters like this for children — they are dangerous and illegal. Report illegal e-scooter use to your local Gardaí.”
