A young man from Naas, Co. Kildare was chatting to Kieran Cuddihy on RTE's Liveline show on Tuesday as a young person struggling during the housing crisis.
This comes amid talks of modular housing without planning permission being signed off in Ireland to allow people to live in small homes in back gardens.
"The Government is telling a generation of young people that their future is living in a shed in the back of a garden," according to Social Democrats housing spokesperson Rory Hearne.
Tommy (24) from Naas, who spoke on the show, believes that this plan by government is unacceptable and young people "deserve better."

Tommy lives at home with his parents and commutes to Dublin for work, something he says is very challenging as a young adult.
"Everyone should be given the equal and fair chance of actually getting home ownership, and I think this measure is simply not good enough.
"The government need to go back to the drawing board and actually look at how they're going to get young people to actually have home ownership. Modular homes or like back garden sheds are simply not good enough," Tommy said on Liveline.
He explained to host Kieran Cuddihy on that he has never been able to move out of his family home and his plan is to just save and budget in the hopes that one day he can leave.
"Unfortunately, given the situation, realistically, I'm just going to run out of savings and then end up back at home like a couple of my friends. You're just prolonging how long you have to stay at home for, so it's really not viable."
Tommy said that public transport in Naas "is not up to scratch," so for him having a social life out is very difficult as well.
He said often times buses don't turn up making having a social life "very, very hard."
"So between the housing crisis and public transport and just everything it's just so hard to live a normal life of someone in their early 20s.
"I've seen some cases where some of my friends will just move out and then they just run out of savings and then they're just back at home and back to square one, which is something I really ultimately want to prevent.
"So, just unfortunately, the best solution as of now is to stay at home, contribute to bills, contribute to groceries, save where I can, and maybe just one day, find a way out."
Tommy said that although he is very grateful to have a roof over his head, living with his parents is very hard.
"This shouldn't be what young people in Ireland are going through. Everyone deserves housing. Everyone deserves a fair shot. The place that they can call their own, this modular scheme is just not up to scratch.
"This is not really what our 20s should be about. Like, we're living in our boxrooms with our parents. It just puts up limitations on your capacity. You're still like a child. This isn't what adulthood should be about, like, still being in your parents' house year on year."
Tommy said that moving to Australia is an option for him but it is an option he really doesn't want to pursue. He loves Ireland and thinks he shouldn't be forced to leave his life in Ireland.
"I just don't want to be another statistic of someone who just put the towel in and moved to Australia, but I know I just have to put the foot down, save where I can and budget where I can. And maybe just maybe one day, get a house in Ireland because Ireland has been my home ever since I was born. I love Ireland and it's just such a shame, that such a great country has been held by such a prevalent issue.
"It's just becoming more dystopian every single week, every single month. The same conversations all the time. Young people moving to Australia. And prices not going down. Like, it just feels like there's no end in sight. I don't know what's going on with the government, but nothing is ever going to change," Tommy said on Liveline.
He added that he feels like the government doesn't care about young people in Ireland and is offering no support to help them get their own home.
