€13.7m plans for Kildare nursing home extension

A planning application for a €13.7m nursing home extension in Newbridge has been lodged with Kildare County Council.

The proposed works are for Willowbrook Nursing Home, addressed at Borahard House, Morristown Upper, Newbridge, Co Kildare.

According to Construction Information Services (CIS), application number 2660322 was submitted to the local planning authority on March 27 2026.

CIS is now monitoring the local authority for a decision on the application.

The proposed plans, under architect CQA Design & Build, consist of the following:

• the partial demolition of the existing part single-storey part two-storey nursing home;

• the demolition of the existing single storey utility outbuilding to the rear of the site;

• the removal of existing storage sheds (x2) /container (x1) and water storage tanks (x2) to the rear of the site;

• the making of alterations to the remaining part of the existing nursing home;

• the construction of a part two-storey, part three-storey extension to the sides and rear of the remaining altered part of the nursing home, to provide an extended nursing home (bedroom capacity: 88 x single occupancy en-suite bedrooms),

Two courtyard gardens, a landscaped garden at ground level and two outdoor terraces (one at first floor level and one at second floor level) have also been planned for, to function as an amenity open space for residents.

Other plans include the construction of a single-storey detached utility building/ refuse store; a laundry bin area and the installation of an auxiliary generator to the north east of the extended nursing home on the opposite side of the internal access road; the making of alterations to the internal access road and the carparking layout (proposed capacity: 29 spaces); and the provision of two x cycle parking facilities (total capacity 20 spaces); and all associated site development works.
