An Garda Síochána Kildare is warning the public about a new scam targeting people searching for rental properties.
Gardaí in Kildare say criminals are posing as landlords and using legitimate property websites to advertise fake or compromised listings.
Victims are then asked to pay a deposit to secure a viewing, often under the pretence of preventing no-shows.

How the scam works:
You’re asked to pay a small deposit to view a property
You enter your card or banking details online
You may then receive a call from someone claiming to be your bank
They say your account is compromised and ask you to authorise a payment or share security details
The scammers use this information to gain full access to your account
Red Flags to watch for:
Requests for payment before viewing a property
Pressure to act quickly
Calls asking for banking details or security codes
Protect yourself:
Never pay a deposit to view a property
Never share banking details, PINs, or codes over the phone
Always verify listings and landlords independently
If you believe you have been targeted or fallen victim to this scam, contact your Bank Immediately.
