'Total disregard': Anger after three tonnes of rubbish dumped in Kildare estate

Residents in a County Kildare housing estate have expressed their anger after an estimated three tonnes of rubbish were dumped in the middle of the road.

According to Kildare town resident Pat Curran, the incident took place overnight in the Maryville region.

Mr Curran, who once served as the Mayor of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, told the Leinster Leader that the perpetrator(s) have shown "a total disregard for local people's health".

He explained: "Local residents are extremely angry as it is the start of the grass cutting and planting of flowers in the estate, and to wake up to this this morning was just heart breaking.

"The only thing missing was the kitchen sink, and even then, that might be in there somewhere."

Fortunately, Mr Curran also said that Kildare County Council was notified of the dumping and has sent a team out to clean it up.

In addition, he revealed that Maryville is turning 60 years old this year: "People have great pride in the way its kept; this [littering] should not be happening."
