A neighbour who was quick on his feet managed to scare off burglars targeting a home in rural County Kildare.

The brave neighbour's actions were outlined by Garda Lenny Donnellan during a recent guest appearance on KFM.

He explained that the incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, April 2 last at Castleroe in Maganey West.

According to Gda Donnellan, the perpetrators were spotted by the neighbour, who had gone out to investigate.

Startled by the neighbour's presence, the would-beburglars subsequently fled the scene of the crime at speed.

Gda Connellan also revealed that the perpetrators were spotted fleeing in a Black Ford Mondeo vehicle with the following registration plate: '08-SO-581'.

"Fortunately, no damage was caused and and no entry was gained on this occasion, thanks to the vigilant neighbour," he added.

He concluded by urging anyone with information about this crime and / or the vehicle to contact Athy Garda Station on 059 863 4210 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about this incident, a garda spokesperson had this to say: "Gardaí attended the scene of a burglary at a residential premises in Maganey, County Kildare shorty after 6.25pm on Thursday, April 2 last."

"Investigations are ongoing," they added.
