Kildare County Council (KCC) was asked at a recent meeting to provide an update on the Harbour Field project in Maynooth.

The request was made by Fine Gael Cllr Tim Durkan at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, April 10 last.

In addition to the update, he also wanted KCC to provide a timeline regarding the delivery of the project, which aims to provide a public realm park for the town.

His motion was seconded by Labour Party Cllr Angela Feeney.

Responding to Cllr Durkan’s motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "Strategic Projects and Public Realm Team (SPPR) received Urban Regeneration Development Fund (URDF) funding to procure a consultant and QS team to complete the detailed design element and prepare a costings and tender pack to bring the project forward.

"These works have now been completed and SPPR has submitted an Expression of Interest to the EU Just Transition Fund.

"We are awaiting feedback on our proposal from the fund in order to inform our next steps."

KCC concluded by emphasising to Cllr Durkan: "It is not possible to give a timeline as there is no funding secured at this early point in the process."
