BREAKING: Van on fire causing delays on M7 in Kildare

The vehicle on fire this afternoon

Motorists in Kildare are facing significant delays this evening following an incident on the M7 near Newbridge.

Traffic is currently being held westbound at Junction 12, Newbridge/The Curragh, after a van caught fire on the hard shoulder. The incident, reported shortly before 4.50pm, has led to rapidly building queues on the approach.

Drivers are encountering heavy congestion from as far back as Junction 10 at Naas South, with brake lights visible well in advance of the scene.

Local roads around the junction are also experiencing increased traffic as motorists attempt to avoid the disruption.

Emergency services are understood to be at the scene, and drivers are being urged to proceed with caution and allow extra time for journeys.

There is no confirmation yet on how long delays will persist.
