The scene at Newbridge Road, Naas
Gardaí are investigating what's believed to be a serious assault just near Naas town centre tonight.
It's understood that a man who was at the Applegreen service station, Newbridge Road, was viciously assaulted at around 9 o'clock.
There are five gardaí and two garda vehicles at the scene of the well known filling station and convenience store, including at least two plain clothes officers.
A section of the forecourt furthest from the main road has been closed off with crime scene tape - but the business remains open to the public.
According to a nearby witness an individual was engaging in menacing-type behaviour at the location and this escalated when two others arrived subsequently and apparently assaulted this individual, who was reportedly kicked a number of times while he was on the ground during the incident.
Staff working there contacted the emergency services. It is thought the man who was violently assaulted left the scene before an ambulance arrived.
