Kildare County Council (KCC) has been urged to to carry out an assessment of one North Kildare street.

The request was heard at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, April 10 last.

Specifically, Social Democrats councillor Peter Melrose, who appeared at the meeting by virtual means, motioned for KCC to carry out the assessment on Bridge Street, Kilcock.

As part of his motion, he told KCC that he wanted the assessment to focus on 'road width, footpath width, traffic flow and the impact of current parking arrangements on bus movement, pedestrian safety and cycling access'.

The motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick.

In response to Cllr Melrose's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "The Transportation Department will assess Bridge Street and the issue outlined.

"In reviewing the current Parking Bye-Laws and layout, there appears to be a number of issues that can be addressed.

"Also, it appears that inappropriate parking can cause an issue for larger vehicles using the street."

KCC added: "The Parking Bye-Law enforcement can be increased to promote appropriate parking practices."
