Glenroyal hotel in Maynooth to host national diabetes conference
1 Sept 2015
The Glenroyal hotel in Maynooth will host a 'Thrive-abetes'conference on Saturday October 3rd in conjunction with Diabetes Ireland. The conference will focus on the physchological effects that living with chronic diabetes can have on a person, while also looking at the how parents of children living with the condition can cope with the disorder. The conference has been organised by Diabetes Ireland volunteers Gráinne Flynn, Rebecca Flanagan and Christine Meehan. One of the organisers, Gráinne Flynn, said “we have developed specific programmes for both groups (Adults with type 1 and parents of children with type 1) based on patient research that we did in 2014. Since we started planning this event, we have been overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received from the online diabetes community, from healthcare professionals and from the diabetes industry." There will be guest speakers jetting in to the conference from the UK, along with well recognised figures from home that have lived with diabetes themselves. Part of the conference will focus on how parents can manage their child's diabetes in a way that will leave them as stress-free as possible.
