Scores of shopper were evacuated from the Whitewater Shopping Centre in Newbridge - due to a pre-planned fire drill. Bargain hunters at the retail complex had to leave the building and were instructed to gather at a specified assembly area outside shortly after 10am. A spokeswoman for Whitewater told Kildare Now that the evacuation was due to a scheduled fire drill which was organised as part of the facility's safety procedures. The centre in Newbridge, Co Kildare is Ireland's biggest regional centre and has more than 70 shops and employs 1,000 people. Whitewater Shopping Centre boss Ingrid Ryan recently won an accolade at the 2015 Spectre Awards on the back of strong growth in customer numbers and spending at the Kildare venue.
