Kildare people at risk of repossessions can seek help on their court day from experts for free

By Louise McCarthy   Kildare people at risk of having their homes repossessed will now have the option of getting expert advice from MABS on the morning of their court appearance.   Courthouses in county Kildare are now part of a €10million national effort to reduce repossessions.   It is anticipated that additional staff will be employed at MABS and the Irish Insolvency Institute to tackle the growing crisis.   Spokesperson for MABS, Michael Culloty, explained that following an initial pilot programme  in July involving a few counties, Kildare along with the rest of the country will now have help from MABS and ISI at the courthouse on the day of the case.   However, Mr Culloty warned people not to leave getting advice until their court date but that those who seek advice on the morning are more likely to get their case adjourned and get additional time to resolve their issues. “This is about creating a confidential space where people can see what options are available to them. We would advise people to turn up early on the day of court and before getting a civil bill getting in touch with the MABS and the ISI would be preferable.”
