Calling Kildare Residents: Make your voice heard in support of Syrian refugees fleeing conflict
13 Sept 2015
ActionAid in conjuction with several national agencies is calling on Co Kildare to join them in a photo shoot this afternoon on Sandymount Strand. This will be used to send a strong message to European Ministers who are meeting tomorrow to discuss a new programme to cope with the Syrian crisis. "Let's tell our government that people in Ireland want to extend the Céad Míle Fáilte to the thousands escaping conflicts. Let's get together today to send a strong message that we stand with refugees and for humanity! This will be a family-friendly event. Bring children, you may need hot flasks and (colourful) umbrellas in case of rain" pleads ActionAid. Participants should be prepared to be there from 2.30pm sharp to 5pm and meet at the public park entrance to Sandymount Strand, on Beach Road, opposite Marine Drive. Stewards there will help people get oriented. See www.actionaid.ie or their Facebook page. Counties Kildare and West Wicklow have rallied last week in support of the expected Syrian arrivals, organising collections of clothing, children's toys, bicycles, etc.
