Improvements works finally commence at treacherous Mile Mill junction

Milemill junction
Works have commenced to improve the sight lines at Mile Mill Junction The four cross roads at Mile Mill is a junction that has caused concern to motorists in South Kildare due to poor sight lines from all routes. The junction is heavily used by traffic coming from Kilcullen to Dunlavin, Brannockstown, Ballymore Eustace and Mile Mill but a solution proved difficult owing to houses located right at the junction. In ongoing discussions with the Area Engineer for Roads, Deputy Martin Heydon highlighted the need for a change to the layout to make it safer. A proposal was submitted by KCC to An Garda Síochána for their approval that all four approaches would have a stop sign and line. “Traffic would then creep through the junction in the knowledge that another vehicle will not be travelling at speed through it at the same time. It's a mechanism that has worked well in other areas and I am hopeful that the proposal will get the approval of the Traffic Core and allow for the works to proceed next month as funding has been secured for the works” said Deputy Heydon. Works commenced this morning and motorists are urged to approach the junction with caution.
