The Port Tunnel remains closed as fire fighters battle a suspected truck fire -motorists should completely avoid the area. Dublin centre traffic has taken the brunt of the impact as hundreds of lorries are now using city-bound commuter routes.
A truck caught fire travelling northbound through the tunnel shortly after 7am this morning.
No casualties have been reported, but the north and southbound bores have been closed while at least ten appliances from the Dublin Fire Brigade deal with the incident.
Major traffic delays have been caused a result of the incident as DFB units from across the city deal with the blaze. DFB said it has has provided a standard response to a Port Tunnel incident including four pumps, an Environmental unit and ambulance.
Gardai said the 5 axle ban for Dublin City Centre has been lifted due to the current closure of of the Tunnel.
