Council to hear calls for action on homeless problem

Council chiefs will today hear calls for action on the homelessness crisis in Co Kildare. The issue will be raised at the monthly meeting of the Council in Aras Chill Dara in Naas. Sinn Fein councillors Ide Cussen and Thomas Redmond will tell the local authority that more funding is required for housing and homeless services in the county. The call comes as new figures show 80 people were homeless in Co Kildare at the end of August. The latest figures from the Department of the Environment show that nationally there has been a 76 percent increase in the the number of families using emergency accommodation since the start of this year.
