A second free pre-school year for Co Kildare kids is needed - lobby group
29 Sept 2015
A lobby group has called on the Government to introduce long-term solutions to childcare rather than quick-fixes. Start Strong said that next month's Budget is a great opportunity for the Coalition to give the nation's children the best possible start in life. Start Strong director Ciaran de Buis said: "After years of cutbacks, it’s time to provide long term solutions to the crises in our early childhood care and education system – that of quality, affordability, and investment. "The Budget provides the Government with an opportunity to do more than just win votes. "We need to avoid quick fixes like tax credits. We need a programme of structured investment that links public funding of childcare services to quality standards. "We're calling for a five year plan for the introduction of six months parental leave, as well as moves towards a second free pre-school year."
