Newbridge Library have organised a host of free courses and talks and some fun events for the kids, over the coming months. Although there is no charge, (you just need to be a member of the library), booking is recommended. Have a look ....
ADHD talk with Dorothy Armstrong Tuesday October 13th 7pm Dorothy is an Occupational Therapist with a private practice in Maynooth Dorothy will host an evening that is primarily aimed at parents, although teachers and those who work with children with ADHD may also find this talk useful. Children with ADHD are frequently misunderstood and falsely labelled as badly behaved, this can lead to them developing low self- esteem with resultant mental health issues. This talk aims to promote ways to build and maintain their self- confidence and resilience.Strategies for helping children with ADHD to achieve optimally in school will also be discussed. Come along to get tips and ideas to support your child to develop and for dealing with their more difficult to manage behaviours at this four part course of talks. Booking required.Self harming behaviours in young people Tues 10th Nov at 7pm For some young people acts of self harming can emerge as a way of dealing with painful emotions such as loss, hurt or lack of self worth. This talk aims to briefly explore the concept of deliberate self harming behaviour. It will offer parents some information on alternative ways of helping a young person cope with psychological distress without risk of physical harm to themselves. Booking required. Booking requiredKildare Readers Festival Event Alternative Publishing Routes for Writers Friday October 16th 5.30pm Kildare writer and Librarian, Mario Corrigan will chair an informative discussion on the changing landscape of publishing and in particular the alternative routes that writers can pursue to get their work out to readers. Mario will be joined by Vanessa O'Loughlin, Hazel Gaynor, James Lawless and James Durney. This event will take place in Newbridge Library and the event will also host the presentation to winners of the 2015 Cecil Day Lewis Awards.The event is free but is a ticketed event - contact the
