Make more pills available over the counter to ease pressure on health system - pharmacists

Pharmacists have called for more medicines to be available over the counter. The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) said that giving the local chemist in Co Kildare a bigger role in dispensing tablets will ease the pressure on the health service. IPU president Kathy Maher said: "An increase in the availability of certain medicines without prescription will ease the pressure on our already over-burdened health system. "Patients will be able to treat everyday health conditions without the costs associated with going to the GP and getting a prescription."
