1 Oct 2015
A Co Kildare man aged in his 80s was today sent forward for trial for alleged sex attacks on two boys more than 25 years ago. The accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his alleged victims, appeared in Naas District Court this morning. The court was told that the man is charged with a total of 12 counts under the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990. The alleged offences against two boys occurred in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Judge Desmond Desmond Zaidan sent the accused forward for trial in the Central Criminal Court on October 19 on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The court heard that the man was aged in his 80s and that he was medically fit to face trial. Judge Zaidan imposed media reporting restrictions on the case and ordered that neither the accused man's identity nor the identity of his alleged victims be revealed.
