Athy stabbing victim needed 100 stitches - court hears

A recovering heroin addict appeared before Naas District Court today charged with assault causing harm following an alleged stabbing incident at lunchtime in Athy yesterday. Ian Lawlor (35) of  Clonmullion in Athy was remanded in custody by Judge Desmond Zaidan. The alleged stabbing incident happened in  Garter Lane, Athy at 1.50pm yesterday. The stabbing victim was taken to Naas General Hospital where underwent emergency surgery and received 100 surgical stitches. Inspector Patsy Glennon told the court that more serious charges against Mr Lawlor may follow. The court heard that Mr Lawlor, who is a recovering heroin addict but has been clean in recent times. The court was told he has a partner and a young daughter.
