Man charged with Athy stabbing appears in Naas court

An Athy man appeared in court today charged with an alleged knife attack in the town last week. The alleged stabbing incident happened in Garter Lane, Athy at 1.50pm on September 29. Ian Lawlor (35) of Clonmullion in Athy, who is charged with assault causing harm, appeared at Naas District Court today for a brief hearing. An earlier court sitting heard that the stabbing victim was taken to Naas General Hospital where underwent emergency surgery and received 100 surgical stitches. Judge Desmond Zaidan asked today: "Is the alleged victim still alive? and gardai said he was. Lawlor, who appeared in court in a blue top and had his left hand bandaged, was remanded in custody to appear again in Naas District Court on October 22. Gardai told an earlier court that more serious charges against Mr Lawlor may follow. The court also heard that Mr Lawlor, who is a recovering heroin addict but has been clean in recent times. The court was told he has a partner and a young daughter.
