Fatal shooting of Louth Garda highlights 'dangers' of job says Co Kildare GRA
12 Oct 2015
A leading Co Kildare representative for the Garda Representative Association said that yesterday's fatal shooting of one of their own highlights the dangers of the job. The shooting dead of Garda Tony Golden while he was investigating a domestic disturbance has plunged the nation into shock. Naas based John Joe Connell, Central Executive GRA Council said: "This highlights the dangers that Gardai face everyday in their job." At about 6pm yesterday evening Garda Golden called to the house to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. He apparently was met by a man brandishing a handgun who shot the Garda before turning the gun on himself. A 21-year-old woman, apparently the girlfriend, was also seriously injured in the incident. The shooting took place not far from where Garda Adrian Donohoe was shot dead in Co Louth in 2013. The father-of three was shot in the head as he stepped from his vehicle during a botched raid on Lordship credit union. Nobody has yet been charged with Garda Donohoe’s killing.
